    Fosamax Plus D Information

    Fosamax Plus D dosage

Fosamax Plus D is only taken one a week unless directed otherwise by your doctor. It works best when taken consistently. Find a time when you can remember to take it around the same day every week.

It works best when used as soon as you wake up. Try to take it before you eat, drink or take any other medication.

The tablet is ingested via the mouth with a full glass of water. Swallow the tablet whole without chewing, crushing, sucking or splitting it. Do not lie down until you eat your first meal.
Stay upright for at least 30 minutes (up to 2 hours is ideal) after your dose and before eating. It will not work unless it is taken on an empty stomach.

Avoid taking this around bedtime as food or lying down can prevent absorption of the medicine and may lead to side effects. Other drugs can also impact the efficacy of this drug. Provide a list of your vitamins, supplements and other medicines including prescription and over the counter drugs.

    How Fosamax Plus D works

Fosamax Plus D works by combining alendronate and cholecalciferol to treat osteoporosis. Alendronate is a bisphosphonate that helps to slow the process of osteoporosis and helps retain bone mineral density. This can help to prevent fractures and injury.

The Vitamin D (cholecalciferol) helps to absorb calcium which is necessary for the development of strong and healthy bones. Long term use may lead to health problems. Your doctor will monitor your condition to make sure this is taken safely.
