What is Compazine used for?
Compazine (prochlorperazine) is a prescription drug classified as an antipsychotic phenothiazine derivative with antiemetic properties. It is used to treat psychosis, severe nausea and vomiting.
Some common side effects of Compazine are dizziness, drowsiness, headache, dry mouth, constipation, increased appetite and hypotension (low blood pressure). Symptoms can occur at lower doses and are more prevalent at higher doses. Disclose your current drugs with your doctor to avoid an adverse reaction.
If sudden signs of an infection develop such as a sore throat, call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. Extrapyramidal reactions and motor restlessness such as Parkinson-like symptoms (agitation and jitteriness) can develop while taking Compazine. Only take antiparkinsonism agents if required by your doctor to manage long term therapy.
