What is Cosopt used for?
Cosopt drops are a combination of Timolol Maleate and Dorzolamide Hydrochloride that are used to treat open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. It reduces the amount of fluid produced in the eye which lowers the pressure. High pressure inside the eye can lead to blindness. Ocular hypertension can occur when fluid does not pass through the eye as effortlessly as it enters it. Loss of sight can be gradual so early detection is important. Loss of sight may not be noticeable so regular eye exams are crucial.

How to Use Cosopt?
When discussing Cosopt with your doctor they should provide instructions and counselling. The manufacturer also provides a patient information leaflet. If you have any additional questions or concerns call your doctor or pharmacist as proper use of this product yields the best results.
Wash your hands before using to avoid contamination. Do not allow the dropper device to make contact with your eye. Contamination or damage to the eye can cause harm to the eye and can possibly contribute to loss of eyesight.
If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them prior to taking cosopt and keep them off 15 minutes after. The contacts may absorb some of the medication and prevent proper absorption.
Most people take one drop in the affected eye twice a day. Your dose may change depending on your condition and response to treatment. Keep the container tightly closed when not in use and store in a clean environment at room temperature.
Should you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the dose that was missed and continue with your regular schedule. Taking more than the recommended dosage at once can result in more frequent or severe side effects.
Do not take copspt if you are pregnant or breastfeeding as the medication may harm the baby. Do not take cosopt if you have problems such as increased heart rate or have experienced heart failure. Inform your doctor if you have had a recent eye surgery or you have existing eye problems. This cannot cure or reverse glaucoma but it can manage it.
What are Side Effects of Cosopt?
Cosopt has known side effects. This is not a complete list and includes frequently reported adverse events. Report side effects to your doctor or pharmacist if they are severe or you need help managing them.

- tearing of the eye
- dryness of the eyes
- discharge from the eye
- seizures
- feeling of something in the eye
- chest pain or discomfort
- Confusion
- weakness and heaviness of the legs
- dry mouth
- stuffy nose
- blue lips, fingernails, or skin
- chills
- slow or irregular heartbeat
- dizziness
- blood in the urine
- muscle cramps or pain
- cough
- diarrhea
- lightheadedness
- joint or muscle pain
- Back, abdominal, or stomach pain
- seeing floating spots before the eyes
- burning or stinging of the eye (when medicine is applied)
- increased frequency of urination or painful urination
- red, irritated eyes
- shortness of breath
- indigestion or upset stomach
- mental depression
- itching of the eyelid
- eye or eyelid pain, swelling, discomfort, or irritation
- stuffy or runny nose
- unusual tiredness or weakness
- fainting
- Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
- sweating
- headache or weakness, severe and sudden
- sore throat
- Bitter, sour, or unusual taste
- Cold- or flu-like symptoms
- sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
- difficult or troubled breathing
- change in vision
- skin rash
- Blurred vision
- sensitivity of the eyes to light
- irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
- trembling
- red skin lesions, often with a purple center
- sore throat
- itching
- itching of the eye
- nausea or vomiting
- coughing, shortness of breath, troubled breathing, tightness in the chest, or wheezing
- seeing flashes or sparks of light
- increased blood pressure
- crusting or scales on eyelid
- depression
- pain, numbness, tingling, or burning feeling in the hands or feet
- tiny bumps on lining of the eyelid
- numbness, tingling, pain, or weakness in the hands or feet
- redness of the eye and lining of the eyelid
- Burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
Cosopt Drug Interactions?
It is important to disclose all your current medications with your doctor to prevent allergic reactions or adverse interactions. They may have to make a decision if the interaction is worth the benefit of using either drug or if your therapeutic regime needs to be changed.This is not a complete list of all potential interactions.
